The first key to making great money from an eBay online auction is to do some extensive research and locate some items that are already selling well on eBay and other auction sites. There is no reason to try to sell stuff that doesn’t have a huge demand by people. It will simply be a waste of your time and money. That is why you need to do your research first before you even set up an eBay online auction.

Selling Tips For Online Auctions Like eBay As Well As Selling on Amazon
One of the things I'm constantly amazed at when I go to an online auction site like eBay or a third party retailer like Amazon, is the greed and stupidity of sellers. I am both a buyer and a seller and here are some general selling tips and secrets based on 15 years of experience, for anyone who wants to actually sell their products:
1. Always check out the selling history of what you're selling under "Completed Auctions" and what the going rate is to buy the item online from other sources of the same product in the same condition. You'd be amazed as to how many sellers list products at a higher dollar total including shipping than a place like Amazon where you can make a straight purchase or the going price from previously complete auctions. Why would anyone want to buy an item from you for $18 when they can purchase it outright on Amazon for say $15? Similarly, if the going rate on an auction is $25, why would you list the opening price at $35?
2. Always show a picture of your product. Anyone not showing a picture of their product is sending out a subliminal message to the potential buyer that:
1) They don't actually have the product
2) they don't want to show the product because it is not as described
3) They don't have a scanner which is pretty pathetic and
4) They don't care.
3. If you are selling a used item and you don't list the opening or set sale price at least 25% less (when shipping is factored in) than what it would cost to buy new, how many people are going to go to all that trouble of bidding, paying and waiting for a used item that they can buy new, from a stranger just to save 25%? If you are selling a product that is brand new, the sales price should be listed substantially less then what people would pay for it at a National Chain store. If not, most people would rather buy something in person at the going rate then save just a few dollars for the hassle of purchasing online from a stranger.
4. Unless the item you're selling is in totally bad shape, never use the phrase "Sold as Is" in your selling description as what you're subconsciously saying is "Let the Buyer Beware".
5. When selling "Buy It Now" items on places like eBay or Amazon where multiple sellers are selling the same product in the same condition, understand that unless a seller has terrible feedback, people will always purchase at the lowest offered price. You should constantly check on the prices of competing sellers and make pricing adjustments immediately. Do you really think when 5 sellers are selling the same item for $5-$7, you will be able to sell yours for $8?
6. Try to give fast service to buyers and communicate immediately if there is a problem and offer them some kind of rebate or a refund if there will be a long delay. One of the first things a prospective buyer checks out is a sellers feedback and most people will avoid sellers with questionable feedback.
7. Psychologically, its easier to sell an item with a lower selling price and higher shipping charge then the same higher listed item with lower shipping, if the total price is the same. Don't charge so much extra on shipping though that the auction site will take notice and cancel your auction saying you're trying to avoid paying selling fees.
8. If by some mistake, you have understated the shipping fees, eat the extra cost, do not try to tell the buyer they owe more money on the shipping. I've underestimated the shipping costs several times when sending to a foreign country and I ate the cost and made a mental note for future listings what I should adjust the cost to on my listings.
9. For overseas customers, you will personally have to take your item over to the Post Office for most items and fill out custom forms, etc. I would add a surcharge for all foreign sales for your time but don't list it as a surcharge but just make it part of the shipping charges. IE, if it costs you $12 including supplies to send something to a foreign country airmail, list shipping as $16 or higher.
10. If you are selling an item for over $50, I would charge the customer the exact insurance costs. If you don't and the item is lost or stolen you are responsible for it.
State in your listing that shipping includes mandatory insurance. I usually don't insure anything under $50 but do occasionally use a tracking number for items over $25.
11. Whenever applicable, I would only accept payment by PayPal as this way you avoid the hassle of waiting for payment and depositing checks in banks and waiting for payment to clear and following up with customers for payment. I would clearly set a 2 or 3 day time limit to make payment after the auction ends in your listing. After that your obligation to the buyer ends. For "Buy It Now" items, I would make payment immediately by PayPal. I also would clearly state in your listing that you take PayPal only.
12. Include packing costs in your shipping charges. The USPS will supply you with free priority mailing boxes.
13. The Post Office also has Flat Fee priority mailing using their packages and mailers irregardless of what the product weighs.
14. Whenever possible, include a basic description of what you are selling in the listing. Often you can do this by just cutting and pasting the same publicly listed information or specs. IE, when I sell a CD, I always list the tracks and the date of its release. When I sell stereo equipment Iike a CD player, I list the items pertinent specifications. When people don't do that, its telling me subconsciously that the seller doesn't care or no what they are actually selling and doesn't sound like someone I'd want to deal with.
15. Lastly remember that 75% of something is better then 100% of nothing on products you wish to sell.

Your One Stop Online Auction Shop - Save Time with Automation
If you list a few items "here and there" at online auctions, it only takes a few minutes to get your items up for sell. However, if you build an online auction business with hundreds of items for sale, you'll run out of time and energy fast. That's why automation is so important. Even if you find the perfect one stop online auction shop where you can sell all your items in one place, automation will still be necessary to keep the business going - and keep your sanity! Here are some great ways to automate your auction tasks.
Automate with Auction Software
There are software programs that are specially made for auctions. These programs will store all your listings in a database along with titles, descriptions, photos, pricing and shipping details. Some programs have a feature where you can save templates for certain categories. For example, if you sell household products, you might use the same template for all household items. Then, you might use a completely different template for your wholesale products. Therefore, you can save each template and have them available when you need them.
How it Works
A great benefit of using auction software is you can list more items in less amount of time. Here's how it works:
a) Type in your listings and accompanying details.
b) Upload photos or banners for your listings.
c) Submit the items to the auction site for listing.
It's that simple. Without this software, you will likely have to submit each item by hand through an online form with several screens. This could take several minutes or longer per listing. To get this software, check with your one stop online auction shop first. They might offer the software as a free tool. Use the search engines to search for "auction software" or "auction listing automation."
Automate Emails
Once items have been sold, you should have some email templates ready to go for "thank you" messages, up-sell messages, etc. Create several "thank you" emails for the types of products you offer, each being customized for those customers. Also, create several "special offer" emails to send buyers throughout the year. Some one stop online auction shops provide automated email systems for you. It's free and simple to set up a system like this, and the rewards are tremendous!
Automate the Shipping Process
Keep shipping supplies on-hand at all times. Prepare envelopes, boxes or bags ahead of time with labels, packaging materials, etc. Develop a system that you will use every time you receive an order so you won't get disorganized. Take advantage of shipping "tools" supplied by your one stop online auction shop or payment processing company. Some auction sites or payment processors will provide packing slips for every order with the customer's purchase details already printed for you.
Automate Listing and Ending Times
Schedule your items to end around the same time so you can easily manage them once the auctions end. If you schedule auctions to end on weekends, you can concentrate on shipping the items at the beginning of the week. Those who run auctions weekly usually go through a cycle of listing, ending and shipping around the same times every week.
Saving Time and Money
Automation will help you save time and money. You can list and manage more items through automation. Also, you'll have a better chance at getting repeat business by sending regular mailings or e-mails to buyers. The more money you can save the better bargains your customers will receive!

How to Buy and Sell at Online Auctions
When you think of online auctions, what's the first place you think of E-bay right, but it's not the only auction place out there. It is of course the biggest and most known by far. You can shop and buy everything from posters to shoes, or even vehicles. You can also sell things that are cluttering up your house.
Some things might be old software you're not using anymore. Or maybe you're getting a new computer and want to sell your old one.
Buying articles on e-bay is simple, all you do is search for an item, hit enter and look at all the choices. You can find some very good deals on purses or jerseys. I've found some outstanding deals personally on e-bay. It's amazing what all you can find on e-bay; the most obscure things can possibly be found.
Selling on e-bay is simple also. All you need is to setup an account to be a seller. It's also wise to have a way to take a picture of whatever you may be offering. This gives the possible buyer the opportunity to see what kind of shape the item is in, plus with a picture you may be able to get more money from your item. I don't even look at the items that don't have any picture.
Also with buying, if you would like to get the item quicker, you might want to consider looking at "Buy Now" items. At times you may pay more for a "buy now" item than you would if you bid, but at times it will actually save you money.
When selling items you're going to have to include a shipping cost, usually you can estimate closely to what the actual shipping cost will be. But don't put it too high either, this is unethical and not something you should do. Maybe a good way to get a possible amount is to compare your item to like items and see what others are charging for shipping. Then put the amount down. If you have postage scale by all means do it this way.
Also be sure to check other auctions out there. They may not be as well known but you may find other cool items there as well. Or, possibly, that something special you've been looking all over for. They're easy enough to find; just do a Google search on auctions. Then look at the different ones that come up.

Your One Stop Online Auction Shop - Finding That Perfect Auction Site
Selling through online auctions is a great way to earn extra cash or even start a full-time business. When you find your one stop online auction shop that's just right, it can become a very lucrative business. There are many auction websites, but you'll want to find a site that best fits your selling needs. Here are some tips.
Be an Auction Lurker
Before listing your items, observe the auctions for a while. See what's hot and what's not. Every auction site will have its own unique audience. Some will attract more of certain types of buyers than other auction sites. The auction company might advertise more to certain groups of people using banners or paid search engine listings. If you're selling wholesale products, then you will naturally want to list with an auction shop that attracts wholesale buyers who are looking for great bargains. If selling household items, you'll want an audience of people who buy household auction items.
Also, observe how the site operates on a day-to-day basis. Do the auctions seem to end with more bids on certain days of the week or a certain time of the day? For instance, auctions that end on late Saturday night get more bids than those ending on a Tuesday night. Lurking at different auction sites will help you find a one-stop online auction shop that's right for you.
Test Your Auction Items
When searching for your one stop online auction shop, try several test auctions with some of your items. Monitor the response as well as the amount of traffic the listings receive during the auction's running time. Many auction sites allow you to place a visitor counter on your auction pages so you can know how many people view your auction. If you sell many types of products, advertise several items from a few categories.
Minimize Auction Expenses
There are many online auction shops that offer free or low-cost listing capabilities. Some auction sites only take a percentage of each sale while others may charge a fee for each listing whether you sell or not. Those auction sites that offer free listings and/or only take a percentage of each sale are very beneficial to you as a seller. You only pay when you sell items instead of paying high fees just to advertise your products, so you are taking no risk when listing your items. Though these auction sites may have smaller amounts of traffic than the larger bidding sites, you might find the savings will make it worth your while. After all, auctions are supposed to be "bargain" sites, right?
Some auctions charge a fee AND take a percentage of each sale. These may have more traffic, but the charges add up in a hurry and every listing can become a financial risk when you're just starting out.
With so many options, you can easily find a one-stop online auction shop that fits your budget and listing needs. Use these tips to find that perfect online auction shop and sell those unwanted items today!

Start Your Own Home Business With Online Auctions
There are so many ways out there today to start your own home business that it can be a difficult choice to make. A lot of people are deciding to create some additional income by starting their own home business from online auctions.
The first place that we all think about when we hear the word auction is eBay, but there are other places on the internet besides eBay where you can sell your items. They include Yahoo and MSN auctions and then there is Amazon which has lots of traffic and buyers. The best thing about these auction sites is that you do not have to be an expert to sell on them and it does not cost a fortune to get started and best of all, it takes very little time. These sites already have established traffic and this is a must in order for you to make a sale.
Also, it is not difficult to find items to sell on online auctions. You can start out by selling some of your old books or CD's including movies . Then you can do some housecleaning and auction off things that you do not use anymore. Clean out your garage and other storage buildings because they are always full of stuff that you can put in your auctions. Help your neighbors to clean out their garages and ask them for things that they are not going to keep and if they are in good shape, put them in your auctions.
Make sure that you have clear pictures of your items on your online auctions and make sure that you give people a full description of what they are bidding on. Give your customers all the information that you can because people like to know what they are buying and usually they buy from the seller who gives them the most accurate information.
Study sellers who are selling the same type of items as you and see what people are bidding on their items and why they are getting bids and apply those same principles to your online auction items.

This is the current case with using online auctions to make a living, it is definitely possible but at this time you would need something to separate yourself from the fierce completion. This involves one of two methods, either out pricing your competition or by selling products they don't have.
The way to accomplish the first method is by finding better wholesalers than your competition; this will allow you to price your products lower than them. The problem is that you are also cutting into your profit margin, however you will still make money from your online auctions. The other method can be done by either creating your own products or auctioning of region specific products for which demand is high and supply limited.
Now the reason that I bring up these methods is to make you aware of the modern methods of making money online through online auctions. Now the auction work at home program currently being marketed by Cathy Banks has nothing to do with these methods of making money through online auctions.
This is the reason why her program is being revealed as a scam her purported methods of making money online rely on setting up fraudulent auctions that only appear to make you money but in the end will hurt you. The only way that Cathy Banks can do what she claims on her site is by running an eBay scam in which her customers set up auctions for products that they never intend on delivering.
Thus the person who will get hurt in this scheme is you as they are using your account to process these fraudulent auction and when the customer requests their money back it will come out of your pocket. Scams like this have come and gone and they eBay community had done a great job of keeping them from surfacing until now.
The important thing to look out for when looking for online opportunities is to avoid scams. For every legitimate online job there are a hundred scams waiting to take your money. This is something to keep in mind when taking a close look at Cathy Banks' auction work at home system.
What Cathy Banks is proposing is a way to make money through online auctions, something that has been around for many years now. Advantages and Disadvantages of Online Auction Sites
Characteristics of a Good Online Auction Site
• Site must have prominent privacy policy that guarantees that the site will provide secure link when a customer enter credit card details and do not sell customer information.
• Very clear defined policies and procedures must be enacted upon when and if any wrong transaction occurs.
• Rating of buyers and sellers facilitate the identification of sellers who do not exist to the end of bargain.
• Fees and commissions must be mentioned on the site. Most of the sites do not charge any fees from bidders but sellers often have to pay small fees for listing the items and commission on selling any item. So the bidders must compare online auction sites for the fees and commission rates to get an idea of the current rates.
• A good online auction site must have escrow services option such as PayPal. These services make the selling and buying more quick by preventing buyers and sellers from becoming intermediary. The buyer can directly send the small fees and payment to the escrew service, after receiving funds escrew gives instruction to sellers to ship the goods. When buyer receives the goods in acceptable condition, funds are transferred to seller via escrew service.
• A good online auction site must have the international payment and shipping option. Commercial sites support international sales.
Advantages of Online Auction Sites
Online auction sites offer several advantages:
• Online auction sites do not stop businesses to carry on sales of product through traditional sales method.
• An online auction site also reduces the distribution cost of a product. It can be stored at one place till it is ready for shipping. It will also reduce the packaging cost of items for distribution to intermediaries such as retail stores. It will also protect goods from damages and keep them safe.
• Online auction also helps small businesses to sell their seasonal, discontinued or damaged goods often with profits and eliminate the inventory expense to store them.
• Online auction sites open the door of international markets for small businesses and help to expand global market. That is nearly impossible to achieve via normal marketing channels.
• Online auction sites also help new businesses that offer new products and it becomes easy to set a market price based on supply and demand.
• These sites also help to find out what customers are willing to pay without doing time-consuming expensive market research.
Disadvantages of Online Auctions
Online auctions do not provide buyers with an option of personally viewing and evaluating items before purchasing. This may lead to the possibility of fraud.
Another major drawback is that it is also not possible for every business to take part in online auction. Companies have to host their own auction websites and for this purpose they have to hire trained technical staff.
